Glenn Close hosts wedding for daughter Annie Starke

Glenn Close does not like being ignored, but was happy to cede the spotlight over the weekend for her daughter Annie Starke’s wedding.

The Fatal Attraction star hosted the nuptials at her multi-million dollar estate in Bedford, New York on Saturday, welcoming guests including Rumer and Tallullah Willis, the bride’s godfather Robert F Kennedy Jr and his daughter Kick Kennedy, who was one of the bridesmaids.

Starke, who is also an actress, married management consultant Marc Albu. She is the 30-year-old daughter of Close and producer John Starke, who split in 1991 and were never married.

The two were all smiles on their daughter’s big day though, with Close transforming from mother-of-the-bride into a dancing queen later in the evening as she let loose and began jumping for joy while the band played the classic Rascals tune Good Lovin’.

Many of the guests shared photos from the weekend’s festivities, including Rumer and Tallulah who attended the wedding together. 

Rumer and Starke grew close back in 2011 after the two performed together in the play Love, Loss and What I Wore in New York.

‘Wedding Crashers,’ joked Rumer in one post as she shared a photo of herself and her little sister.

‘When your date is the prettiest girl in the room…,’ wrote Rumer in another post alongside a photo of the two sisters.

In a third post she called Tallulah ‘my favorite ingenue.’

Kick Kennedy documented the entire weekend, sharing amusing snaps of the girls as they got ready for the wedding on Saturday and later of Close enjoying some time by the pool on Sunday.

A number of Kick’s photos showed the bride and fellow bridesmaid Jillian Reid hanging out in the bathtub at Close’s estate as they waited to go outside.

That was a wise move, as while there was no rain to worry about over the weekend, temperatures did soar well into the 90s as the outdoor wedding got underway. 

A number of the guests joked about the very hot and very sweaty weather in their posts.

That heat did not stop the groom and some of the other men from enjoying a round of golf before the wedding, while Sunday seemed to be spent around the pool for those who stayed in Bedford.

Close and her daughter proved themselves to be quite the wedding planners too, with guests being treated to a massive pig roast for dinner, fresh oysters for appetizers and a well-stocked bar.

There was also a beautiful display of penoies and wildflowers along with bowls of cherries decorating the tent in the actress’ backyard.

That was done with some help from David Stark Design, who wrote about the challenges that its staff faced in an Instagram post after the ceremony.

‘A magical ceremony, overlooking a glorious wildflower field. Sure, the temperature was soaring outside, but the warmth here came from the palpable love in this outdoor room,’ wrote Stark. 

‘We can make it look pretty. We can pick the right spot, but we can’t manufacture LOVE. And that, folks, was here.’ 

Mother and daughter also opted to use Close’s  Emmy-nominated makeup artist,  Alexandra Urvois, for the big day.

Starke’s godfather, Robert F Kennedy Jr, posted a photo of himself and Kick with the bride and her parents, writing: ‘My goddaughter Annie Starke’s wedding. With her dad, John, her mom, Glenn Close, and my daughter Kick, her best friend and maid of honor.’

John Starke was a production manager on Close’s first major film in 1982, The World According to Garp.

Close ended up marrying her third husband, businessman James Marlas, two years after that film premiered in 1984, but three years later the two had called it quits and she began dating John.

The two had a daughter in 1988 and three years after that they two split.

Close later got engaged to Steve Beers, whom she met in 1995 while doing the Broadway production of Sunset Boulevard.

The two never wed however and split in 1999 after four years. 

Close, 71, split from her fourth husband, venture capitalist David Evans Shaw, in 2015 after nine years of marriage.

She and her daughter are closer than ever however, and once Starke returns from her honeymoon it will be back to work with her mother.

The pair will be hitting the press circuit to promote their new film The Wife, in which Starke plays a younger version of her mother.

There is already talk that the role could land Close her seventh Oscar nomination and possibly a much overdue win in the Best Actress category. 

Close was enjoying some relaxation on Sunday though after the event, reading the book Farts: A Spotter’s Guide as guests enjoyed her pool.

Kennedy was around for the festivities and will now be heading to Hyannisport, where her brother is set to marry next weekend. 

Starke, who currently lives in Los Angeles and shacks up at her mother’s apartment in Manhattan when on the east coast. could be back .
