Glynneath woman ‘had drink spiked and then £100 stolen’

Sadie Owens, 21, was at Yates Pub in Wind Street, Swansea, on Saturday night when she claims a woman took the cash

A woman claims her drink was spiked during a Saturday night out then £100 stolen from her wallet while she was lying ‘paralysed’ on the floor.

Sadie Owens, 21, from Glynneath, was at Yates Pub on Wind Street, Swansea, when she claims a woman took the cash as she was struggling from the effects of the chemical.

Ms Owens claims she did not have many drinks during the evening and was feeling well until the incident, which happened around 10.30pm on December 16.

She said: ‘I went out at 7.30pm with my cousin, we were having a good night in Wind Street. I didn’t drink much and I was feeling fine.

‘It was around 10.30pm when I started to feel really funny and weird.

‘I had to go outside and then I passed out on the floor, I felt paralysed, I literally couldn’t move.

‘One minute I was fine and then next thing I knew I was on the floor, it happened so quickly.’

Ms Owens claims that as her cousin ran for help, a woman came over and took the cash.

‘My cousin ran outside and she was on her phone trying to call help, a woman approached me and we just thought that she was trying to help,’ she said.

‘She said that she was going to get money from my bag to help me, I could see her grabbing my money and then she ran away.

‘Because I felt paralysed, there was nothing I could do and my cousin was too busy trying to call help so she couldn’t stop her.

‘I was put into a wheelchair and taken to the Help Point on Wind Street, luckily I came round and I didn’t have to go to hospital.

‘The next day I woke up with a bump on my head, I keep trying to re-trace my steps from the night but all I remember is feeling completely fine then collapsing on the floor.’

Ms Owens, who is a mobile beauty therapist, has said that the night has left her traumatised.

‘It was a really scary experience and I certainly won’t be going out again for a long time,’ she said.

‘I am really shaken up by it. I was really excited for the evening, you don’t expect to be spiked on a night out.

‘I am so glad my cousin was there as I really don’t think that I would have got home safe.

‘A few girls have messaged me to say that they have also been spiked on a night out in Swansea recently, it’s really dangerous that this is happening.’
