A feisty goat affectionately known as LeBron has taken council rangers on a wild chase through the streets of suburban Melbourne.

The goat, whose name is the same as NBA star LeBron James, forced cars to swerve and stop to avoid its rampaging path around Cranbourne North, in the city’s south-east.

Footage captured on a car’s dashcam shows the goat bouncing about near Courtenay Gardens Primary School before making its way across several roads and through front yards.

The City of Casey council was alerted after the goat was sighted, with local laws officers in pursuit until they managed to corner it in the driveway of a home not far from the school.

‘Lebron led us on a merry chase, it took us nearly 20 minutes to corner and capture him,’ City of Casey Local Laws Officer Nick Haviaridis said in a statement.

‘We had to use three different vehicles to run him down. Definitely a feisty character.’

Mr Haviaridis said the fast-moving goat was nothing out of the ordinary.

‘It’s not unusual for us to get calls like this. Because our municipality includes both rural and suburban areas, animals can often roam onto local streets,’ he said.

As the owner has not been found, the goat has now been rehomed.

The goat has the same name as NBA star LeBron James who many consider as G.O.A.T (Greatest of All Time)
