Gogglebox Australia star Matty Fahd has pleaded with fans to help raise money for bail just two days before he goes to prison.
Alongside an Instagram photo of his ‘mug shot’, Matty, 31, wrote: ‘In order for me to be released I need to raise $1,000 bail and I need your help.’
‘Hi friends and family, as many of you already know I’m going to prison!’ he began the caption.
‘I need to raise $1,000 bail and I need your help’: Gogglebox star Matty Fahd has asked for money from fans as he heads into prison
‘This Friday 4th of May, I will be handing over my mobile phone and getting dressed in overalls – to spend a night in prison.’
Matty continued: ‘In order for me to be released out the next morning, I need to raise $1,000 bail and I need your help to get that and hopefully a lot more!’
Matty then clarified that his overnight prison stint was actually part of an event called Bail Out, which supports youth charity organisation Whitelion.
The reality TV star hopes to raise awareness about the cause by voluntarily checking into Ashfield’s Yasmar Detention Centre this Friday.
Why? ‘This Friday 4th of May I will be handing over my mobile phone and getting dressed in overalls – to spend a night in prison’ Matty announced on Instagram
The prison no longer holds criminals, but has been kept in the same condition, complete with cells, dingy beds and a ban on communication with people outside.
‘The event is a national campaign for Whitelion, providing a unique opportunity to step into the shoes of a young person that has been disconnected from our community due to abuse and neglect, drug addiction and poverty,’ Matty explained.
‘Whitelion connects at-risk young people with the community to educate them to make positive and often life-changing choices through practical and effective support such as mentoring programs, education and employment.’
All for a good cause! Matty then clarified that his overnight prison stint was actually part of an event called Bail Out, which supports youth charity organisation Whitelion
The Goggleboxer has already exceeded his ‘bail’ requirement, having raised a total of $1,525 as of Wednesday afternoon.
According to the event’s website, Matty will be ‘stripped of possessions, given a prison uniform, fingerprinted, photographed and taken to the exercise yard to be fed prison gruel.
‘Inmates will also be subjected to a mock interrogation and court proceedings before being sentenced to cell time with their gang, or other solitary inmates.’
Fans can donate to Bail Out, or find more information about the cause on the event’s website, or by visiting Matty’s fundraising page.
