Gok Wan ‘told off’ for tidying rubbish on Virgin Train

TV stylist Gok Wan has slammed Virgin Trains after an ‘obnoxious, sarcastic and embarrassing’ train manager ‘told him off for cleaning his table’.

Gok, 43, was on the 9.16 from Leeds to London yesterday when the row over his table in First Class kicked off.

He tweeted: ‘Ok! So I’ve just been told off for cleaning my table on @VirginTrains – hilarious! Apparently this is bad! Was just trying to help out… jeeeezzz’

He added: ‘After being told off once, now The train MANAGER has now just come up to me and told me off for putting my rubbish in my cup!

‘I’m not kidding! I said this is not a big problem and I just want a tidy table and he just said to me ‘remember, this is first class’ I AM APPAULED!

‘I suggest your train manager gets some customer service training.

‘He was obnoxious, sarcastic and embarrassing – simply cos I put a tissue and a banana skin in my cup!

‘He said to me “Remember, this is first class” you can let him know, I know it’s first class, I bought my ticket!’

When Virgin asked the presenter to direct message them so the public wouldn’t see, he replied: ‘I don’t need to DM you… I have said what has happened.

‘I am now stuck on this train for another 30 mins feeling angry and embarrassed.

‘Luckily, I am resilient, I dread to think how somebody shy would feel – being embarrassed by this man!’

He later added: ‘Finally pulling into london. Never been so glad to get off a train. @Virgin_TrainsEC what a horrible experience.’

There was further outrage from other Twitter users when a Virgin Trains spokesman responded jokingly: ‘Oh no, apologies Gok.

One was particularly unimpressed with the company’s response, branding it ‘inappropriate’ and ‘disgusting behaviour’.

The Virgin Trains social media spokesman swiftly replied: ‘We’re sorry if you did not feel our response was appropriate.

‘We thought that Gok was making light of the situation and apologise if this wasn’t the case.

‘Our colleagues at @Virgin_TrainsEC have responded and will look into this further ^CG.’

MailOnline has contacted Virgin Trains for further comment.
