‘It’s like getting a haircut’: Student, 21, reveals why he’s had THIRTEEN plastic surgery procedures – and says going under the knife isn’t a big deal

A 21-year-old man has spoken candidly about why he turned to plastic surgery to perfect his look after battling with body image issues.
Brendan, from the Gold Coast, has undergone at least 13 different cosmetic procedures, including fillers, Botox and even fat dissolving injections under his chin.
The student said he has fillers in his cheek, chin, jaw, under eye and lips – and Botox injected into his forehead, crown, crow’s feet, chin dimples, bunny lines, the corners of the mouth and upper lip.
‘I don’t think I’ve gone over the the top or too far,’ Brendan told ABC Catalyst in an episode about Investigating Body dysmorphia.

The young man said he just wanted to ‘enhance’ his look because he wasn’t happy with his facial features.
‘Everyone does it nowadays, and it’s like going to get a haircut, it’s just part of maintenance, getting fillers and Botox,’ he said.
‘It is all preventative and makes me feel better about myself.’

Now when Brendan looks at his own reflection in the mirror, Brendan said he’s ‘pretty happy’ with what he sees.
‘I’m happy at the moment, I don’t think I need anything too urgently,’ he said, adding he might need Botox soon.
‘But it’s just improving the things that make you unhappy and make you feel better about yourself.’

Despite his lengthy history of cosmetic procedures, Brendan said he’s ‘definitely aware’ of what he’s doing.
‘I know if I’m getting too fixated I know I should stop thinking about that,’ he said.
His mother Isolde, who’s a plastic surgeon, said she was initially ‘horrified’ when she discovered her son wanted cosmetic procedures.
‘I was horrified that he would be obsessed and get like body dysmorphia, where you would overdo things. That’s what I was scared of but we haven’t gone there,’ she said.
‘I’m very proud of him. He’s awesome. He’s got a passion for it.’
