Gold Coast home burnt to the ground over ‘love triangle’

‘It must be a case of wrong identity’: Tradesman whose house was firebombed and had ‘this is for f**king my wife’ graffitied on his wall denies any ‘love triangle’

  • A man has been left homeless after his house was firebombed over ‘love triangle’
  • ‘This is for f***ing my wife’ was spray-painted on a wall of the home by arsonist
  • John Vesely, who has been renting the home for 12 months, denied a love tryst
  • Police are investigating whether graffiti was an attempt to throw off detectives

A tradesman whose rental property was firebombed over an apparent love-triangle has denied any knowledge or involvement in an affair.

‘This is for f***ing my wife’ was spray-painted along the wall of John Vesely’s rental at Ashmore, on Queensland’s Gold Coast, as it burned to the ground on Monday morning.

But Mr Vesely has denied being involved in any romantic tryst and claims police are investigating whether the graffiti was a deliberate attempt to confuse detectives.

‘I don’t know what it’s about, it could be a case of the wrong identity,’ Mr Vesely told Daily Mail Australia.

‘At the end of the day I’ve been seeing my partner for up to 12 months and she’s been divorced for up to two years, but we have a good relationship with her ex-husband.

‘Police believe it could be an attempt to throw them (investigators) off the scent.

‘I’m just devastated. Whatever they claim I’ve done it’s totally untrue and it’s affected a lot of lives.’

The blaze broke out about 8am and began in Mr Vesely’s ute which was parked in the driveway, before spreading to the house.

A dozen firefighting crews were needed to extinguish the inferno, which destroyed half the house while the remainder suffered severe smoke damage.

Police have confirmed that as the inferno raged, those responsible for the fire stole a boat, trailer and moped.

Adding to Mr Vesely’s pain is the fact none of his possessions inside the home at the time of the blaze were insured.

The shattered father-of-two said he would leave the search for the firebug to police, with his priority to find accommodation for he and his children.

‘I’ve got my kids and we’ll try to enjoy the last bit of their school holidays before any effort to rebuild,’ Mr Vesely said.

‘We’re still trying to come to grips with it all.’
