Gold Coast mother’s fury after cyclist smashes into her two-year-old girl at Coolangatta

Mother’s fury after cyclist smashes into her two-year-old girl and FLEES the scene – leaving the toddler bleeding and with shattered teeth

  • Havana Padua Eleuterio was with her parents on the foreshore in Coolangatta
  • A cyclist crashed into her at 6pm Sunday, smashing her teeth into her gums
  • Havana’s mother Penny is desperate to find the cyclist after she rode off
  • The cyclist was on a pink bike and is described as being blonde and in her 30s

A toddler on a weekend bike ride with her parents has been ‘wiped out’ by a female cyclist leaving her teeth smashed and face bloodied.

Havana was with her parents Thiago and Penny Padua Eleuterio on the foreshore at Queens Elizabeth Park in Coolangatta, Queensland, at 6pm on Sunday when she was struck in a hit-and-run.

The little girl had her front teeth smashed into her gum and her face left swollen and scratched, with a dentist saying there is no way of knowing if there will be lasting damage.

Havana also needs a CT scan over fears her jaw is fractured due to the horrific bruising and swelling.

Ms Padua Eleuterio said she grilled the cyclist over why she was riding so quickly near children before she realised how much blood was covering Havana.

The cyclist who crashed into her daughter said she ‘didn’t mean to’ before riding away.

The mother-of-two said she was filled with rage the cyclist didn’t stop to see the damage she had done to her daughter.

‘The lady came up behind her and wiped her out,’ she told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

‘I’m literally raging with anger.’

Ms Padua Eleuterio is now hunting to find the woman who hurt her daughter and said what she did was not legal and definitely not ‘moral’.

‘My daughter could have died or could have had a cracked skull,’ she said.

Ms Padua Eleuterio told Daily Mail Australia her daughter was ‘covered in blood’ as she sobbed.

Ms Padua Eleuterio said when she and her husband went to pick up Havana they turned around and the woman was gone.

‘We know she probably didn’t do it on purpose and no one would want to hurt a child but a child was badly hurt and she needs to come forward to at least apologize,’ Ms Padua Eleuterio told Daily Mail Australia.

‘Havana doesn’t deserve to be sucking through a straw with her teeth lodged in her gums and getting CT scans for fractures on New Year’s Eve. She needs to just do the right thing and come forward to talk with us.

‘We don’t blame her for a mistake but we still need to deal with it responsibly!’

She has asked local businesses if they have CCTV footage of the accident to help track down the culprit.

The cyclist was blonde and in her 30s with a basket on her pink bicycle.

Ms Padua Eleuterio said the woman was slim, wearing active wear and had headphones in at the time.

Cyclists leaving the scene of a crash that results in damage, injury or death face similar penalties – such as imprisonment – to motorists fleeing a car accident.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia the matter was being investigated.
