Gold medallist nicknamed ‘The Mountain’ gives hilarious interview during the Commonwealth Games

Australian shooter Daniel Repacholi has given a hilarious interview after winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

Nicknamed ‘The Mountain’, the 35-year-old miner from Victoria stands 2.02m tall and weighs a whopping 128kg.

After winning gold in the men’s 50m pistol final on Wednesday, Repacholi outlined his unconventional diet while competing.

‘I’ve had about four parmas in five days as well as a couple of pizzas so the diet of a shooter isn’t too bad,’ he said.

He’s been staying at a pub on the Gold Coast rather than at the athletes village in order to be closer to the shooting range.

‘We can’t go and drink but we can eat what we like. It’s a really pub though, it has good food, the parmas are excellent.’

He revealed an unusual good luck charm helped him clinch his third Commonwealth Games gold medal.

Repacholi wore a pair of rainbow-coloured toe socks in the final, and admitted he doesn’t wash them often.

‘I wash them when I smell them,’ he said.

His impressive beard was initially grown to ‘annoy’ his wife Alex, and Repacholi plans to retire from shooting in order to spend more time with her and daughter Zoe.

Repacholi won gold at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in the 50m pistol pairs, and backed it up with another gold in Glasgow in 2014 in the 10m air pistol.

He also won three bronze medals to go with the haul of golds won during his career.
