Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein trolls Trump again

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein on Monday once again took aim at President Donald Trump on Twitter.

‘Wish the moon wasn’t the only thing casting a shadow across the country,’ Blankfein tweeted, without mentioning Trump by name.

‘We got through one, we’ll get through the other.’

The investment banking executive tweeted on the same day that Trump and tens of millions of Americans gazed at the total solar eclipse.

There was no comment from the White House.

Blankfein is a relative newcomer to Twitter.

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein on Monday once again took aim at President Donald Trump on Twitter

He opened his Twitter account on June 1 – the same day that Trump announced the United States was withdrawing from the Paris Agreement on climate change.

On that day, Blankfein tweeted: ‘Today’s decision is a setback for the environment and for the U.S.’s leadership position in the world. #ParisAgreement’

Since June, Blankfein has posted just 13 tweets total – nearly half of them being implicit criticisms of the president’s policies.

The day after Trump made the announcement on the Paris Agreement, Blankfein tweeted: ‘Leadership helps. Our language is dominant. [Money is] global. [Foreign] talent comes. Bad if lost. Consider with making policy on environment, trade, defense, etc.’

On June 9, Blankfein once again took a shot at Trump, tweeting: ‘Just landed from China, trying to catch up… How did “infrastructure week” go?’

The White House’s ‘infrastructure week’ theme was overshadowed at the time by fired FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before a Senate committee.

Last week, in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, Blankfein tweeted a quote from President Abraham Lincoln.

‘”A house divided against itself cannot stand”,’ Blankfein tweeted. ‘Isolate those who try to separate us. No equivalence with those who bring us together.’

The tweet was another criticism of Trump, who ignited outrage by declining to condemn the white nationalists involved in the rally.

Instead, the president said ‘both sides’ were to blame for what transpired.

Just 10 days after Trump took office, Blankfein became the first major Wall Street leader to speak out against his order to halt arrivals from several Muslim-majority countries.

In a voicemail to employees, Blankfein said diversity was a hallmark of Goldman’s success, and if the temporary freeze became permanent, it could create ‘disruption’ for the bank and its staff.

‘This is not a policy we support, and I would note that it has already been challenged in federal court, and some of the order has been enjoined at least temporarily,’ Blankfein said, according to a transcript seen by Reuters.

During the presidential election, Blankfein endorsed Trump’s Democratic opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
