Golf legend John Daly marked the end of 2024 in typically understated fashion, smashing a drive over the street while smoking a cigarette.

The 58-year-old, who has earned cult status for his eccentric antics – both on and off the course – enjoyed boozy celebrations on New Year’s Eve.

Daly was seen downing beverages alongside friends and his 21-year-old son, John II, as the clock ticked into 2025.

The two-time major champion also headed out on to the sidewalk with his golf clubs. With a cigarette in his mouth, Daly took out his driver and smashed a ball over the street and towards a set of buildings on the other side.

‘Teein’ it into 2025,’ the 58-year-old wrote alongside the video, which he posted to his Instagram story on New Year’s Day.

The soundtrack to the clip was ‘Hit It Hard’, the 2010 song released by Daly. In the video, he teed a ball up using a gap in the sidewalk.

He could then be seen checking for oncoming traffic as a cigarette hung out of his mouth and his gold shoes glinted in the street light.

Once the coast was clear, Daly smashed the ball into the night sky as those watching on cheered and hollered and high-fived the golfer.

Daly is a two-time major champion, having won the PGA Championship in 1991 and the Open Championship in 1995.

He recently played with his son in the PNC Championship alongside Tiger and Charlie Woods.

Daly’s outfits and diet have become the stuff of legend, with the 58-year-old once revealing he had been nicknamed ‘camel’ because ‘I never drink water’.

He explained: ‘I cannot stand to drink water. I used to drink 12-20 diet cokes a day, I’d go to McDonald’s three or four times a day. To me they always had the best fountain drink.’

He added: ‘I drink about five gallons a week of whole milk. I like mixing Hershey’s in my vitamin D milk,’ he said, before being quizzed on his love for McDonald’s and Burger King.

‘Burger King, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, I love them. I used to be able to eat two Big Macs, two or three cheeseburgers, chocolate shake and regular coke back then, sitting pretty easily… I don’t eat beans spinach, broccoli, any of that stuff. When I was young my dad would force it down me and I would throw it up.’
