Golf WAGs: As controversial Saudi-backed LIV Series tees off, meet pro players’ stunning partners

The third event in the highly controversial Saudi-backed LIV series is set to kick off tomorrow, July 29, at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey, and many of the top golfers are set to participate – despite the furious backlash the event has garnered.

But who exactly are the females behind the sports stars? While some of them try to stay out of the public eye and live a private life, others often flaunt the plus sides of dating a famous golfer – which includes many lavish vacations around the world, meals in five-star restaurants, trips to glamorous hotels, and romantic getaways in private planes.

Many people who are part of a 9/11 Justice Group have slammed the competition – as well as former President Donald Trump for hosting it – accusing him of ‘dishonoring America’ due to its ties to the Saudi Arabia government.

Although the Saudi government has not been directly linked to the 9/11 attacks, 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi nationals – and many families of the victims are speaking out against the LIV series.

Brett Eagleson, President of 9/11 Justice and son of John Bruce Eagleson – who died in the South Tower of the World Trade Center after a plane crashed into it on September 11, 2001, as one of the worst terrorist attacks the country has ever seen – was one of the many who slated the former president for his involvement in the event.

He told DailyMail.com, ‘We’re just absolutely appalled by this decision. We’re really upset and frustrated. We think that Trump’s decision to engage with the Saudis and, even worse, to have this tournament in the shadows of Ground Zero is horrifying.

‘This tournament in being held in the backyard of where 750 people from the state of New Jersey were murdered. This tournament is being held less than 50 miles from where people are standing trial as we speak for their role in 9/11.’

Even so, numerous pro athletes are set to compete to see who will take home this year’s trophy, while many of their wives, fiancées, and girlfriends will most likely cheer them on from the stands.

From how they met their golfer beaus and a look into their relationships to their own careers and accomplishments, here’s what you need to know about the WAGS of the top American golfers competing at this year’s LIV Series.

Dustin Johnson, 37, and Paulina Gretzky, 33 – who is the daughter of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky – first met in 2009, but they didn’t start dating until 2013.

‘I don’t know if you can call it a date since my dad tagged along,’ she later told Golf Magazine of their first get together. ‘That’s how it goes in our family.’

Their second son, River Jones Johnson, arrived in June 2017, with Paulina writing at the time in a now-deleted post, 'I'm so thankful for my family and the new addition'

And according to Paulina, her dad was an instant fan of the athlete, and after meeting him for the first time, he even advised her to marry him right away.

She opened up about her dad’s first impression of her husband during an ‘Ask Me Anything’ Instagram session; when a fan questioned what her father’s first impression of Dustin was, she replied, ‘He told me I should marry him.’

The pair were linked in the beginning of that year, and they got engaged soon after, with Paulina – who has worked as a model, singer, and actress – gushing that she had ‘never been happier’ after he popped the question in August 2013.

Then, in September 2014, the pro golfer and his model fiancée announced that they were expecting their first child together. She gave birth to a son – named Tatum Gretzky Johnson – on January 19, 2015.

‘Paulina and I are happy to announce the arrival of our baby boy, who was born in Los Angeles on Monday morning,’ he said in a statement at the time.

‘Both Paulina and the baby are healthy, resting comfortably, and in great spirits! We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received and plan to release further details in the coming days!’

After the arrival, Paulina couldn’t stop gushing about Dustin’s parenting to People Magazine.

‘Dustin’s the best dad. He’s my best friend. He’s been so supportive with me and we’re just there for each other,’ she said.

Their second son, River Jones Johnson, arrived in June 2017, with Paulina writing at the time, ‘I’m so thankful for my family and the new addition.’

In 2018, the couple faced trouble in paradise when rumors started to spread that they had split. At the time, Paulina had deleted all of her photos with Dustin from Instagram, but she soon cleared the air on Twitter.

‘Every relationship goes through its ups and downs, but most importantly, we love each other very much and are committed to being a family,’ she wrote. ‘Thank you for your love and support.’

It appeared that the couple was still going strong in December 2020 because she was the first to congratulate Dustin after he won the PGA Masters.

She ran onto the field and gave him a big smooch as soon as he landed the victory, with him telling People at the event that she is ‘such a bigger supporter’ of his.

‘Obviously with golf or any professional athlete, or even a business, you got to have somebody to support you,’ he said.

‘I’ve spent a lot of time away from home, or at the golf course, or traveling on the road, whatever it is. So you need that special person, especially with the kids, she does a great job taking care of everything else so all I got to do is worry about golf.’

He also told Golf Week, ‘For me, golf was always the most important thing. And now, it’s Paulina and the kids.

‘And they’ll always be the most important. Obviously, I love the game of golf, competing and playing. But they’re the most important thing.’

Brooks Koepka, 31, and Jena Sims, 33, met in 2015 at the Masters tournament, which Jena told Golf Digest in 2019 was fitting because she is a Georgia native.

In September 2021, Brooks opened up about how Jena changed his life, gushing: 'In the past five years I’ve been able to own who I am and find that happiness.' They are pictured in January

‘We met at the 2015 Masters. And that’s so special because I’m from Georgia, so it’s perfect,’ she explained. ‘We were on Hole 7, which I don’t even remember, but he’s like, “Oh, I remember what you were wearing, where we were standing, everything.”‘

Jena explained that she was a longtime golf fan and had always grown up watching the sport because her dad liked to watch the sport.

They then announced that they were engaged in April 2021, after more than five years together. The duo shared the exciting news via Instagram, with Jena posting a few photos of the magical moment Brooks dropped down to his knee and asked her to marry him.

‘Forever is no joke,’ Jena said in the caption of her pics.

In another post, she called it the ‘best day of her life.’

The romantic proposal took place on a beach in Jupiter, Florida. The golfer was wearing a white Givenchy t-shirt, black pants, and white sneaks, while Jena opted for a light purple mini-dress and white Nike sneakers.

Brooks shared her post to his Instagram story, adding, ‘Finally…’

During an Instagram Q&A last year, Jena revealed that Brooks was heavily involved in the wedding planning process.

‘Believe it or not, he has some strong opinions… Not all obvious ones either!’ she wrote. ‘I always run things by him, he has enjoyed it so far… Makes me even more excited to see him excited!’

She also told The Post: ‘He’s been on all the Zooms, because we have Zooms with the local florist, the hotel, and he’s been there for everything. It’s fun to be a teammate with him on this.

‘We’re not too hung up on just the extravagance, we want – at the end of the day, we’re marrying each other, we already feel like we’re married. We just want everyone to have a good time, and not stress about some of the big details.’

In September 2021, Brooks opened up about how Jena changed his life.

‘The way I’m wired, I’m all on or all off. Maybe I didn’t understand that the first 25 years of my life, but in the past five years I’ve been able to own who I am and find that happiness,’ he told Golf Digest.

‘I don’t know if that’s because of Jena or because I understand more of how things work, but you mature a little more.

‘I can’t put my finger on it. But when it comes together, and you see what works, you say, this is the program, and I’m going to stick with it.’

Jena – who is an actress and is most known for her role in the Sharknado movies – is often photographed supporting Brooks at his golf events, telling the outlet in 2019 that she loves ‘being able to support Brooks and watch him.’

‘He’s so talented. It’s so much fun to watch him,’ she gushed.

‘You can wear them to play golf or you could just wear them to go watch golf, which is how I will be utilizing them cause I don’t play golf,’ she told The Post.

‘One of my big goals is to break more into golf fashion because my posts on Instagram, they’ve really taken off because people like to see what I wear to golf tournaments because that’s my number one question in my DMs – other than anything about Brooks – the number one question about myself is like, “I’m going to the Masters this weekend, what do I wear?”

‘I’ve kind of dialed in tournament wear, and I’ve learned each city, and each event, or even the time of year, some are more dressier than others and some aren’t.

‘I think it’s pretty cool that that’s how I connect to my female audience is more fashion advice and fashion tips, and of course, relationship advice.’

Kevin faced controversy in his last relationship, when he was sued by his ex-girlfriend, named Chung, according to the Korean Times.

He was ordered to pay his ex $170,000 after he broke off his engagement to the woman, whom he had met through a dating agency in 2013, one month before they were supposed to get married in November 2014.

After they split, she filed a lawsuit for financial damages after she claimed she paid for their travel expenses for his tournaments. She also alleged in the suit that their relationship felt like ‘sexual slavery.’

It was reported that he later countersued for defamation and won, resulting in her paying him back $50,000 of the money he had given her from her lawsuit.

It turns out, he had gone on a date with her sister, Kris, while he was in college, but when he texted her to make sure she had gotten home safely, she never responded to him. He then reached out to Justine to ensure she was OK, and the two quickly hit it off.

‘I was a freshman at the University of Georgia, and her younger sister, Kris, was at LSU. Kris came to visit, and we went on one date, and I texted her to confirm she’d made it back home safe. No response,’ he told Golf Digest last May.

‘So I reached out to Justine on Facebook, who confirmed her sister was back and got frank with me about why it was probably not going to work out.

‘So I start talking with Justine, who I discovered is this incredibly driven person who was pursuing dual degrees while working to become a nurse. We kept talking as a couple of years went by; then we started dating. Best decision of my life.’

They tied the knot in December 2012, and Justine worked as Patrick’s caddy for the first two years of his PGA Tour. However, he told the outlet that things weren’t easy for them at first, since Justine had to sacrifice a lot in her career for him.

‘We were road warriors, driving Justine’s Lexus IS 250 sedan, chasing Monday qualifiers around the country just like they did in the old days,’ he recalled.

‘I had extra clubs and clothes. She had a full bag of makeup, full bag of hair products, 50 pairs of shoes … pretty hilarious, just trying to tilt down the seat to catch some sleep as she’s driving through the night so that I could make a tee time.

‘With her caddying, we went six-for-eight in PGA Tour Mondays that year. For her to put her dreams aside to support me, I’ll never forget that. Someday I hope to be half the person she is.’

It’s clear that Angela is a big part of Bubba’s life, as he even got a tattoo of her name on his ring finger.
