Golfer is killed by a falling tree branch in freak accident as he played a round with three mates on his local course

  • A man in his 50s has been killed after a branch fell on him while playing golf  
  • Emergency services were called to Clifford Close, Mollymook NSW, Wednesday
  • The man suffered a significant head injury and went into traumatic cardiac arrest

A man has been killed by a falling tree branch while playing a round of golf with his mates.

The freak incident occured at the Clifford Close in Mollymook on the New South Wales South Coast on Wednesday afternoon. 

Ambulance paramedics arrived just before 3pm and performed CPR but the man could not be revived and died at the scene.  

‘Police have been told the man, aged in his 50s, was on the course with three other players when the branch fell on his head,’ NSW Police said.

The other men he was playing golf with were uninjured and assisted the man before emergency services arrived. 

‘Bystanders did a courageous job commencing CPR on the patient until paramedics arrived,’ NSW Ambulance Inspector Faye Stockman said.

‘Unfortunately the man suffered a significant head injury and went into traumatic cardiac arrest and died at the scene.

‘Accidents like this are absolutely tragic for everyone involved.’ 

Officers from South Coast Police District established a crime scene which will now be examined by forensic police.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
