The sandwich firm at the centre of the NHS listeria scandal that killed five patients is to close.

All products from the Staffordshire-based Good Food Chain were withdrawn after being linked to the outbreak in eight hospitals across England.

But the Good Food Chain was told it would need to reapply to sell sandwiches to the NHS and, yesterday, the firm announced it was going into liquidation.

Its closure means the loss of 125 jobs. Some 40 agency staff were laid off when it voluntarily stopped production in June.

The inquiry into the outbreak is now focused on North Country Cooked Meats in Salford.
