Google software engineer, 22, who was found dead at his desk at the tech giant’s New York City headquarters died of ‘cardiac arrhythmia’

  • EMTs unsuccessfully performed CPR and he was pronounced dead at the scene

A 22-year-old Google software engineer, who was found dead inside the company’s New York City headquarters in December 2018, suffered from cardiac arrhythmia.

Chief Medical Examiner Dr Barbara Sampson issued the cause of death for Scott Krulcik on Friday.

Krulcik died from ‘cardiac arrhythmia’ that was likely caused by a gene mutation, Sampson said in a statement.

‘This young man died of an abnormal heart rhythm, which developed due to a genetic abnormality in an ion channel of the heart,’ she added.  

Krulcik was found unconscious at his work station on the sixth floor of the building in Chelsea by a janitor around 9pm on December 7.   

First-responders attempted CPR but were not able to revive him. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

At the time, police said that his body showed no signs of trauma. 

Authorities also said Krulcik did not have any known history of medical conditions or substance abuse problems at the time. 

Krulcik’s LinkedIn page said he began working at Google in August after serving as an intern in the summer of 2017.

The native of Saratoga Springs, New York, scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in computer science. He lived in Manhattan’s West Village.
