‘There are moments when one feels a pang of guilt as you rush off to work, knowing you may miss that special drama performance or school assembly.

‘Having children should never be a barrier to entering the workplace and in 21st Century Britain, it should be easier than ever for women to enjoy flexible working.’ And Penny Mordaunt, Minister for Women and Equalities, added: ‘The plans set out today by the Department for Work and Pensions will help people to address some of the challenges and choices that they face when looking for jobs and give them more options.’

‘We want everyone to thrive, to be as financially secure and resilient as they can be, and to reach their full potential.’
