  • Bosnian Damir Dzhumur accidentally floored a French Open ball boy on Friday
  • Both tried to catch a loose ball on Court Philippe Chatrier when they collided
  • Dzumhur was battling hard against tournament No 2 seed Alexander Zverev
  • Brought back to his feet, the ball-boy looked winded and was escorted off court
  • The big-hitting Bosnian went on to lose the thrilling match 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7, 5-7

Damir Dzhumur left a lasting impression on a French Open ball boy after the pair collided in the fourth set of his match with Alexander Zverev.

The big-hitting Bosnian fired a ball high into the air after an out call and with both Dzhumur and the ball boy focused firmly on catching the loose ball, the pair collided, sending the youngster crashing onto the clay.

Having returned to his feet via the help of Dzhumur, the young helper was escorted away from the action after appearing to have been heavily winded from the accidental collision.

The No 26 seed at Roland Garros was performing well on day six of the French Open but saw errors creep into his game in the fourth and fifth set – not least failing to let the ball boy do his job in retrieving the ball.

But having won two of the first three sets, Dzhumur was caught up in the moment in the fourth set when he charged to collect a ball dropping from the sky.

Thankfully, the ball boy returned to his feet, despite a heavy fall onto the main clay court at the venue, but was relieved of duties for the remainder of the game as a liaison officer took him down the players’ entrance.

It was a regrettable moment for the highest ranked Bosnian player who never seemed to recover from the freak collision.

Zverev rallied after a sluggish opening few sets and went on to win the third round thriller 6-2, 3-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-5.

The talented 21-year-old German will face either French No 1 Lucas Pouille – who defeated Briton Cameron Norrie in the second round – or rising Russian star Karen Khachanov in round four.
