A brave 81-year-old pensioner has fought off a would-be mugger at a cash machine in incredible video footage. 

Doreen Jones was at a cash machine in Blackheath, West Midlands, when she was interrupted by a young woman behind her. 

The twice-widowed 81-year-old was tapped on the soldier by the woman, who pointed at her mouth and tried to hand her a piece of paper.

CCTV footage shows the situation soon escalating after Doreen refused the young woman’s requests for money.

The woman lunges at the cash machine in an attempt to steal the pensioner’s bank card. 

However, Doreen told BBC Crimewatch that she was not going to let that happen.

She said: ‘I thought, “No, you’re not having my money, I’ve worked hard for that”.’ 

The 81-year-old quickly grabbed her card and was able to overpower the much younger woman.

‘I got her hair as well as her collar and she started screaming,’ Doreen said.

‘She wasn’t expecting me, I tell you.’ 

The would-be mugger ran away without getting anything out of Doreen, however the attack had further reaching effects

Since the attack, which occurred in May, Doreen has suffered two heart attacks and anxiety when visiting the same high street.  

The attacker, meanwhile, has not yet been caught.
