Grant Denyer confirms Family Feud won’t return to Network Ten

Grant Denyer has confirmed Family Feud will not be returning.

Following rumours that Network Ten had halted production, the 40-year-old made the announcement on his radio show on Tuesday.

Speaking on the 2DayFM’s Em, Grant & Ed, he told listeners: ‘I’ve got a big announcement guys. Family Feud is wrapping up’.

‘Family Feud is wrapping up’: Grant Denyer has confirmed the Channel Ten series WON’T be returning – and admits he and the network were ‘guilty of driving the show into the ground’

Grant claimed he felt ‘sad’ the show was being cancelled, after taking on the role of presenter in 2014 following his departure from Channel Seven’s Sunrise.

‘I think it came along at a time when I was looking for something new and a fun new challenge and it kind of re-birthed me, if you like,’ he said.

‘So then you have quite a sentimentality towards it, so yeah it’s a bit sad.

Grant revealed that Family Feud will be wrapping up after the 1200th episodes.

He acknowledged the show had run its course, saying: ‘It did good things but we’re probably guilty of, if anything, driving it into the ground a little bit too early.

‘We gave it a bit too much. It’s six days a week, twice a day, plus All-Star episodes – we might have squeezed that lemon a little too much.’

In response, co-host Em Rusciano joked: ‘Yes! Jab them as you walk out the door’.

But Grant laughed it off, saying he understood why the network wanted to take advantage of the fact the show was doing so well.

‘It’s been a huge success for Network Ten,’ he explained. ‘It obviously reinvigorated that 6pm timeslot which was dead for them for about five years and it increased all the nighttime programming on Ten.

‘So it boosted all the shows after it. There were only two things really working for Ten at the time. It was Family Feud and Have You Been Paying Attention?’

Last week, TV Tonight reported production staff were told on Thursday that the game show will be ‘rested’.

The program has failed to hold a competitive audience share lately, with recent figures showing it trails behind Channel Nine’s Hot Seat and Channel Seven’s The Chase.

TV Tonight also claimed that Channel Ten is already casting for a new quiz show, an Australian version of BBC’s Pointless.
