Grease is the hit 1978 movie that starred John Travolta as Danny and Olivia Newton-John as Sandy playing teenage lovers facing high school pressures to fit in.

And now Paramount Pictures wants to go back to that classic musical for a prequel, it was claimed by The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday.

The movie will be called Summer Loving and will focus on how Danny and Sandy fell in love over the summer before they bumped into each other at Rydell High School.

In the original movie, Danny and Sandy tells their friends on the first day of school about how they fell in love over the summer.

They did so while belting out the song Summer Nights.  

Fans have long wanted to know more about where they met, what their dates were like and what really happened between the unlikely pair.

He says, ‘I met a girl crazy for me’ while she adds, ‘Met a boy cute as can be.’

Then the characters went back and forth singing about their dream romance: ‘She swam by me she got a cramp, He ran by me got my suit damp, I saved her life she nearly drowned, He showed off splashing around, Summer sun somethings begun but oh oh the summer nights

There was more: ‘Took her bowling in the arcade, We went strolling drank lemonade, We made out under the dock, We stayed out till 10 o’clock.’

The tune ended with her saying they ‘made our true love vow’ as they both said their ‘summer dreams ripped at the seams.’

The set up has all the makings for a teen drama.

John August will write the script. He is best known for the hits Big Fish and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory.   

Temple Hill is producing along with Picturestart, the company run by Lionsgate executive-turned-producer Erik Feig.
