Great British Bake Off fans are counting down the hours until the show’s return tonight – and are taking to Twitter to share their excitement.

Viewers across the UK have been sharing memes from past seasons as they prepare for the tenth series’ hotly awaited premiere on Channel 4 at 8pm this evening.  

A fashion designer, a geography teacher, a vet, a part-time waiter, a project manager who runs her own jewellery shop and a classic car and F1 fan are among the 13 home-bakers competing in the show this year.

And the eagerly awaited series is championing younger cake makers, with the line-up compiled of seven people in their 20’s, while the oldest contestant is 56.

Returning to the tent will be judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood, as well as presenters Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig.

But no one is more excited for the return of GBBO than the British public, who have been eagerly tweeting ahead if its premiere.

One user confessed the thought of sitting down to watch the beloved show is the ‘only thing getting them through’ the work day.

‘So I really don’t feel like working today but the main thing that will keep me going is the fact that #GBBO is back tonight!’

Another excited fan commented: ‘I LOVE summer BUT the #GBBO starts tonight and all of a sudden I can’t wait for cosy evenings, wrapped up watching soggy bottoms and people anxiously staring at their ovens’. 

And a third added: ‘A new series of #GBBO, a wedding diet and zero restraint is definitely not the best combo’.

Others were getting fully immersed in the Bake Off spirit following a busy Bank Holiday weekend, posting photographs of freshly baked scones.

Another user shared an impressive Victoria sponge she made using former Bake Off judge Mary Berry’s recipe in honour of the show’s tenth season.

She said: ‘For this week’s #TwitterBakeAlong and in honour of a certain TV show starting this week I’ve made a Victoria sponge using Mary Berry’s recipe’.

The British Bake Off Twitter account also got involved in the hype, posting ‘Are we all READY?’ in a reply to excited fans.

Other viewers simply declared ‘IT’S BAKE OFF DAY’ ahead of the premiere of its tenth season.
