While another said: ‘Hollywood handshake AND star baker – I’m so proud of Michael.’

‘Omg Michael’s reaction to getting a handshake was too pure we must protect our bread week king,’ one viewer insisted.

Cooking a chilli and coconut infused tear-and-share loaf, Michael is the first contestant of the tenth Channel 4 series to be honoured with one of Paul’s handshakes.

Speaking about Michael’s signature bake in the first round of the show, Paul said: ‘I love the affect.. I think it’s very clever.

‘I like the coconut. I think it works really well and the kick of chilli is just enough. I just love the red round there. Nice texture on the other side.

‘I really like that and I tell you why I like it, it’s because I’ve never had anything like that before.’

Fellow judge Prue Leith added that the star design was ‘very pretty’, with the overall loaf getting an enthusiastic ‘brilliant’ from the restaurateur and chef.

A shocked Michael said he couldn’t wait to tell his friends and mother about the handshake from Paul.

With both his signature bread and showstopper being praised, viewers were not surprised that Michael was given the title for this week.

But sadly it was Amelia Le Bruin’s turn to leave tonight, with the sportswear designer, from London, being given the boot after her bread failed to rise to the challenge.

Becoming emotional at the end of the show, Amelia said: ‘It’s no surprise to me that I left on Bread Week, it’s never been my strength.

‘I didn’t rise to the challenge of bread week exactly, but I literally had so much fun. I tried my best and I would like to think that I’ve proved I’m a good baker.’
