The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy said the samples will determine the official cause of death.

Last week, two Cape Cod beaches had been closed due to several shark sightings and one injury from a shark bite.

William Lytton, 61, of New York, said he was bitten by a shark off Truro on August 15.

Lytton told authorities he had been swimming about 30 yards offshore when he was attacked on his left side torso, leg and hip.

Lytton suffered severe puncture wounds to his torso and leg and was hospitalized.

He is said to be in good condition.

It’s unclear what type of shark attacked the man.

The incident was the first of its kind to occur on the Massachusetts beach since 2012, according to wildlife officials. The last fatality from a shark attack in the state was in 1936.

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, a non-profit that studies sharks, said in a statement last week that shark attacks are as ‘terrifying as they are rare.’
