Christmas is set to come early to Newcastle after it won a nationwide vote to receive the hotly-anticipated Gregg’s Festive Bake nearly a week earlier than the rest of the UK.

The bakery chain has announced that the festive savoury treat, which is packed full of chicken, bacon and cranberry sauce, will launch in the city next Friday.

The arrival of the Festive Bake at Greggs is the ultimate symbol that Christmas has started for many, with fans counting down all year and queueing just to get their hands on the first one of the season.

The bake will also launch a few days early in Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff and London, before selling nationwide from November 7.

Tens of thousands of people voted at ChristmasStartsHere.co.uk to back their city to be given the first taste of the Festive Bake this year, with Newcastle being crowned the winner. 

Last week, frenzied pastry fans went wild online after the bakery announced the nationwide release date for this year’s Festive Bake. 

Some fans already counting down to the day they can snap up the treat, while others said that the Christmas season officially begins once they can buy the delicious chicken, bacon and sage stuffed pastry.  

One tweeted: ’22 days till the festive bake is back at Greggs. I’m pumped.’

When does the Festive Bake launch in your city?

The baked treat earned itself hoards of fans last year, as many delighted in the festive-themed pastry.

The much-loved lattice pastry is packed full of chicken breast, sage and onion stuffing, and bacon in a creamy sage and cranberry sauce.

Fans also delight in the crunchy crumb coating on top. 

The bake, which is expected to be on sale for the same price as last year at £1.50, is already delighting fans as they start their countdowns. 

Fans have gone wild over the announcement on social media, with one commenting: ‘Cannot wait for the 7th of November. The return of the greggs Festive Bake.’

Another wrote: ‘Is the Greggs Festive Bake back yet though? That’s when I get excited [about Christmas].’
