Grenfell Tower Inquiry LIVE: London Fire Brigade and fire union to give opening statements

The Grenfell Tower Inquiry will today hear from leading authorities in fire safety and from London Fire Brigade. 

Barristers for the Fire Brigades Union and Fire Officers Association are also set to give opening statements to the at the hearing today.

The hearings have now moved into a fact-finding stage following two weeks of heart-breaking tributes by surviving residents of the tower and the bereaved. 

Meanwhile, the Fire Brigade Union will be holding an annual conference in Brighton where fire chiefs are expected to debate the devastating North Kensington blaze.

Yesterday heard an opening statement from the barrister representing Behailu Kebede – the man who lived in the flat in which the Grenfell Tower fire started. 

Lawyer Rajiv Menon QC said his client ‘is a good man’ who did ‘the right thing from start to finish’. 

Mr Menon also rubbished claims that Mr Kebede had carried out DIY work to his Hotpoint fridge freezer, which is suspected to have been the cause of the fire.
