Marissa Mahon shared the emotional story in a post to popular Facebook group, The Kindness Pandemic and called the card written by her late father her ‘most precious gift’.

The Torquay mum turned 50 on Christmas day said she was ‘dreading’ celebrating the day as it would be the first without her ‘much adored’ father after his death in April.

‘My selfless beautiful sister had my dad write me a card two days before he passed. How she thought of it I will never know, but I will seriously never forget her beautiful gesture.’

Marissa said she was ‘extremely close’ with her father who was a ‘stoic Irish man’ that she loved and relied on.

‘Having worked together for the past 20 years, we saw each other every day,’ she said in the post.

‘Receiving a card from my dad each year meant the world to me, as that’s when he would always express how proud he was of me or similar sentiments.’

Marissa’s post touched many of the group members who offered their kind words in the comments.

‘So precious, brought a tear to my eye,’ one woman wrote.

‘What a beautiful gesture. May it always be a reminder of how much your dad loved you. Many condolences,’ another commented.

‘It’s so tough but you can mingle joy with sorrow when such love is involved. Congratulations of 50 years and having such a thoughtful loving family,’ a third said.

One woman shared a similarly heart-warming story about a letter she received from her late father on her wedding day.

‘My dad wrote me a letter to be read out on my wedding day if it ever happened…well it did…five years after my dad had passed, I married my gorgeous husband and during the speeches segment of our special day, my brother read dad’s letter out,’ the woman wrote.

‘It was so so special, words can’t describe. Of all the letters my dad wrote me in his life, this is the most treasured as I’m sure this birthday card will be your most treasured from your dad,’ she continued.
