Mystery surrounds the discovery of a man’s body covered in blood in secluded bushland near a popular waterhole in Sydney’s south-west.

Emergency services were called to Greengate Reserve on Woolwash Road in Airds shortly after 5pm on Tuesday following the grim discovery.

The body of a man aged in his 20s was found at the scene and couldn’t be revived.

Police are trying to ascertain whether or not his death was suspicious.

‘Police established a crime scene and investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, which remains unclear,’ a NSW Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.

Footage showed multiple police and ambulance vehicles driving in and out of the bushland beyond the quiet suburban street.

Emergency service responders had to use 4WD vehicles to access the remote location and recover the body.

The site borders The Woolwash – a secluded stretch of bushland along the Georges River known for its rugged trails, steep gorge and hiking trails.
