Grimes Met Gala commends attention in Dune-inspired gown, metallic face mask and sword at Met Gala

She’s giving otherworldly new meaning.

Grimes hit the red carpet at the 2021 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala on Monday in an off-white sheer gown, adorned in silver zig zag accents, and a flowing train.

While the unique number showcases her lean figure with its sheer fabric and form-fitting design, it also has heavy doses of black along the train that changes the level of shade to make it darker at the end of the garment.

Not of this world: Grimes, 33, made her grand arrival at the 2021 Met Gala on Monday in an otherworldly, off-white sheer gown, while yielding a sword over her shoulder

‘I mean, I feel like it started as a Dune thing,’ the Canadian musician, 33, told Vogue  of the inspiration for the ensemble, before sharing that she’s a big fan of the famed science fiction story that has seen Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel be turned into a film in 1984 and an upcoming remake.

‘It’s an American author so it fits the theme that American people were involved in the making of it,’ she said, in a reference to the event’s theme: In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.’

If the unique number wasn’t enough to grab the attention of admirers, then her accessories will do the trick.

With face masks required inside the venue due to COVID-19, Grimes (born Claire Elise Boucher), opted for a silver metallic face mask that covered the entire bottom portion of her face.

She also had long dangling earrings, but the final touch was sealed with a silver sword that she dangled over her shoulder.

‘It’s created from a company that will melt down your automatic weapons and make a sword,’ the singer explained.

It turns out the sword is real, not a prop, and is based on a western European design from the end of the Middle Ages around 1400.
