A groom has been slammed for wearing trainers and shorts to his wedding day, with social media users criticising his casual appearance compared to his bride. 

In a pictures shared online, the newlyweds were seen matching in colour-coordinated ensembles, with the bride wearing a pink and lace gown, and her groom in a matching tie and white shirt. 

However, followers argued that the romantic picture was ruined by the groom, who wore a pair of white trainers and cream shorts.

The photograph was posted to Facebook group That’s It, I’m Wedding Shaming by a user, believed to be American, with emojis over the couple’s faces to keep them anonymous.

And horrified social media users were quick to criticise the husband and his relaxed appearance, with the image receiving nearly 300 comments.

One individual questioned: ‘He was doing so well in the top half, what happened?’

Another said: ‘He’s dressed like my grandpa. I don’t think she looks bad for a low budget wedding but he looks like garbage.’

‘I don’t hate it… although if I squint, it does look like she’s dragging along a toddler,’ a third added.

One social media user also joked: ‘When you have to mow the lawn at two and a wedding at three.’

Outraged internet users hit out at the groom for not putting in as much effort into his appearance as his bride

Many users branded it sexist, with one writing: ‘This is a huge pet peeve of mine. If the woman is putting effort into her appearance, the guy should put the same amount of effort into his and they should be the same level of dressed up.’

‘I will never be okay with shorts at a wedding, like seriously?’ another added. ‘I can’t think of a situation where that’s appropriate especially when the bride has clearly put in her effort to look nice… it’s just disrespectful!’

‘She’s looking as nice as she can’, another insisted. ‘I hate it when these loser guys show up in shorts and ridiculous footwear etc. Big message going on there.’
