Growing Pains actress Joanna Kerns files for divorce from husband Marc Appleton ahead of their 25th wedding anniversary

They were just days away from celebrating their silver wedding anniversary. 

Joanna Kerns, who played Maggie Seaver on hit 80’s sitcom Growing Pains, filed for divorce from her husband Marc Appleton on Friday. 

The papers, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, cut their marriage just short of 25 years.

The 66-year-old actress married the architect back in 1994, just two years after the ABC show came to an end. 

It was her second marriage following her divorce from producer Richard Kerns in 1985. 

She rose to fame in the 80’s as a reporter and mother on Growing Pains. The show, in which she starred alongside Alan Thicke and Kirk Cameron, ran for seven seasons.

Since the end of the show in 1992 , Joanna has not acted much but has stayed active in Hollywood. 

Though she did have notable appearances in Knocked Up and Girl Interrupted.  

She has moved into directing and helmed episodes of Dawson’s Creek, This Is Us, Fuller House and ER.
