Gunman opens fire at Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station

A sheriff’s deputy has been shot after a gunman open-fired at a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office in what is understood to be an active shooter situation.  

Other deputies were fired on but escaped uninjured, Deputy Morgan Arteaga of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. 

Deputies set up a perimeter at the location, 501 West Lancaster Boulevard, adding that the suspect is armed and not yet in custody, CBSN Los Angeles reports.

Officials said on Twitter the scene was active. Residents were asked to avoid the area.

The wounded officer was struck in the shoulder and has been transferred to a nearby hospital. A motive for the attack was not known, local media reports.
