Parents ‘grab their children and flee’ after ‘shots are fired’ at town carnival causing armed police to seal off streets

Police are responding to reports of gunshots at a carnival in Huddersfield.
Parts of the West Yorkshire town centre were reported to be cordoned off after witnesses reported shots ringing out during Huddersfield Carnival earlier this evening.
The road around the Great Northern Retail Park was apparently one of those sealed off although a local reporter said the party was continuing.
One witness told the Huddersfield Examiner: ‘All of a sudden I heard gunshots and everyone started running.

‘I grabbed my four year old son. I heard another gunshot. People were screaming.’
Another said: ‘There were two stampedes. I don’t know if it was firecrackers or gunshots. People were running.’
Police say they understand the shots were fired on Great NorthernStreet, reportedly at around 5.40pm early this evening.
It is understood nobody was injured in the shooting but some cars were damaged. Officers were seen speaking to people at the scene.
Police said three men have been detained during the incident. Armed officers are on the street as well as ambulances.
A reporter at the scene said the carnival was continuing ‘unabated’ near the scene of the reported shooting.
