Diners were lucky to escape with their lives after gunshots fired into a restaurant booth and a luxury car parked outside.

The shots were fired outside Escagrill eatery in Moonee Ponds, in Melbourne’s north-west around 10.40pm on Friday.

Bullets flew through the restaurant’s window into a booth where four diners had been sitting.

Another bullet fired into the windshield and driver’s seat of a white Porsche SUV, but luckily had nobody inside.

No one was injured during the incident.

Two unknown men and a woman were heard shouting in the area prior to the shots being fired, police said.

A man and a woman were also seen leaving the area in a red-coloured car shortly after the incident.

An worker at Escagrill said the restaurant was not the target but had been hit by a bullet that ricocheted.

‘We’re in the wrong place at the wrong time,’ the staff member told the Herald Sun.

‘If the police didn’t come, we wouldn’t have known it happened.

‘We never even heard the shots going off.’

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
