Guy Sebastian plays dirty on the premiere of The Voice Australia

‘I thought we were friends!’ Guy Sebastian plays dirty on the premiere of The Voice Australia – and it leaves Jess Mauboy ‘mad’ and ‘confused’

A pop rendition of Ave Maria by Bella Taylor-Smith saw the first catfight of the season on The Voice’s blockbuster premiere.

The 23-year-old church singer’s mesmerising audition, which saw all four coaches’ chairs turn around, saw Guy ‘block’ rival Jess Mauboy.

The frustration was obvious on Jess’s face after the performance, before she said: ‘I am just so mad right now. I’m so confused.’

Guy then confessed he blocked Jess by calling himself an ‘awful person’.

‘Guy,’ Jess shouted at the singer. ‘Sorry Jess,’ he replied, sheepishly.

Jess then took it in stride saying she ‘forgives’ him, before later complaining ‘she thought they were friends’ during a tense exchange.

Guy then offered his pitch to see Bella on his team.

‘I just have to say you could be on any stage. That voice is sublime,’ Guy cooed, adding he also performed in church.

‘I would absolutely kill to have you on my team. I think you have a future and I want to be part of it,’ Guy added.

Bella went on to choose Guy as her coach saying she felt he could get the most out of her vocal talents.

‘I think the coach I am going to go with is Guy,’ Bella said.

‘Oh my gosh. Your voice is crazy,’ Guy said, clearly elated.
