Guy Sebastian regrets fiery dispute with neighbour over a shared fence at his Sydney mansion

Guy Sebastian says he regrets getting into an ugly dispute with his neighbour over a shared fence after the saga quickly became a bitter legal stoush.

The Australian Idol winner, 41, has accused his elderly neighbour Phillip Hanslow, 66, of threatening to kill him during a long-running dispute over the fence.

Hanslow is accused of threatening the singer’s life and kicking over a fence dividing their adjoining Maroubra properties in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on January 23.

The pensioner is fighting the charges, with his defence lawyer claiming CCTV footage would show the singer towering over his client holding a brick.

As the matter returns to Waverley Court on Thursday, Sebastian admitted the dispute had become a ‘circus’ and that he wished it had ‘never happened’.

‘It is something that is out of my hands,’ Sebastian told The Daily Telegraph.

‘I have had to put up with a lot of things that have been said… but I can’t keep fighting all of that anymore.’

The chart-topper said the ongoing legal battle was just another reminder to remember the good things in his life, his wife of 15 years and their two sons.

Sebastian’s alleged altercation with his elderly neighbour followed almost a decade of rising tensions over the pop star’s spacious concrete mansion, which cost $7million to purchase and renovate.

The bitter row began in 2013 when Sebastian, 41, and wife Jules Egan, 43, bought their property at Maroubra, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, for $3.1million.

When they demolished the home to build their sprawling new dream mansion, it triggered a feud with their new elderly neighbours.

Hanslow claims debris from the demolition damaged his home when a ‘brick missile’ smashed into an outside wall, narrowly missing his lounge window and his terminally ill wife Carol, who was watching TV inside.

During the altercation on January 23, Hanslow is accused of telling the Battle Scars hitmaker: ‘I’ll put a bullet in your head’. However, Hanslow believes he actually said: ‘One day someone will put a bullet in your head.’

He was arrested, charged and hit with an apprehended violence order for Sebastian’s protection.

The pensioner was represented by celebrity lawyer Bryan Wrench, who told the court he was waiting for Sebastian to hand over footage of the alleged incident.

Mr Wrench told the court earlier this month: ‘We expect the footage to show [Sebastian] towering over Mr Hanslow with a brick in his hand.

Outside court, Hanslow told Daily Mail Australia that his neighbour was a ‘vengeful’ person and that he was going to have to sell his home.

‘He’s paranoid about security and has a large security camera outside so anywhere I go outside on the property, he can see…’ he claimed earlier this month.

During an interview to spruik his new perfume, Guy, 41, told Channel Seven’s The Morning Show on Wednesday the drama had been ‘amplified’.

‘It has been amplified a lot by all the headlines,’ he said.

‘On the flip side, there are so many great things that are happening with my family.’

‘There are a lot of fans reaching out and they’re genuinely worried but I’m ok. People go through much worse and it’s one of those things you just have to cop.’

This week, the singer released his debut perfume ‘Embrace’ inspired by his partner Jules. At the press event, he sang her a love song titled ‘Right One’.

The perfume’s advertisement, fittingly, features a picture of the couple embracing, with Sebastian looking sharp in a black suit and tie while Jules smoulders in a sequin-covered red dress.

‘It’s been a dream of mine for a long time to create a line of fragrances. Everyone who knows me well knows how obsessed I am with fragrances,’ the father-of-two wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.

‘I never leave the house without a scent on, and I love that feeling when you find that new smell that just speaks to you,’ he added.
