Guy Sebastian says building his $3.1million Sydney home has been ‘extremely testing’

Guy Sebastian says construction of his $3.1million Sydney home has been ‘very testing’ due to neighbourhood tensions – and admits the ‘windowless fortress’ design is ‘pretty out there’

Guy Sebastian recently came under fire from neighbours during construction of his dream family home in Maroubra, Sydney.

But The Voice coach insists the $3.1million development was creatively fulfilling, despite the building process being ‘extremely testing’ at times.

Guy, 37, told WHO magazine on Thursday that he is ‘obsessed’ with design and couldn’t be happier with the results.

When asked if the construction had taken a personal toll, Guy admitted: ‘Oh my God, building in Sydney has been extremely testing.’

The Australian Idol winner added that furnishing his home has been a much easier process than constructing it from the ground up.

He also acknowledged that the monolithic facade, which neighbours have described as a ‘windowless fortress’, is ‘pretty out there’.

‘It’s a unique design – pretty out there,’ he said. ‘But we’ve chosen all the furniture, I found it all. That side of it has been easy.’

He also predicted that his radically modern home will prove to be influential, saying it will likely ‘shake up the building industry’.

Guy hinted that the property took much longer to build than he expected, and the cost of renovation significantly increased over the years.

The Battle Scars singer faced a backlash from neighbours during the development, with one particular local man making frequent complaints.

Guy lashed out at the meddling neighbour during a radio interview in November, after his construction was described as a ‘nightmare’ for residents.

‘[The neighbour is] saying they are “the little guy”, but they live in a $2million house or something. He’s not the little guy, he’s the angry guy!’ Guy told Hit105.

Daily Mail Australia previously reported last year that Guy’s neighbours in Maroubra  were furious over what they called his ‘demolition nightmare’.

One local said they were considering moving due to the extensive building work.

Guy, his wife Jules and their sons Hudson, seven, and Archer, five, moved into their completed home several months ago.
