H.E.R. defends her meteoric rise and addresses ‘industry plant’ conspiracy theory: ‘Y’all got the game twisted’

Four-time Grammy winner H.E.R. defended her career’s meteoric rise and addressed conspiracy theories about being an ‘industry plant’ on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old music prodigy – who kicked off her career at age nine – first reposted a Twitter thread about celebrities versus artists, which was penned by Warner Records senior VP of A&R Ray Daniels.

‘Dear celebrities just because you have 1M followers doesn’t mean you have 1M fans. Fans are a verb, to be a fan requires action. To be a follower takes nothing but a push of a button. Fans are earned, followers are nothing, people might follow you to see you crash,’ Daniels wrote.

Blood, sweat, and tears: Four-time Grammy winner H.E.R. (pictured Sunday) defended her career’s meteoric rise and addressed conspiracy theories about being an ‘industry plant’ on Tuesday

‘All of y’all celebrities trying to be artist can’t let the interest in the celebrity confuse you with having a fanbase as an artist. To be an artist is different, it takes work. You can’t bring the celebrity to the artist table because that requires earning fanfare and favor.’

Ray concluded: ‘New artist gotta perform for free, chase features, and other opportunities to be seen to earn fans. Y’all acting like celebrities already charging for everything going to make you money for a short time but it won’t make you an artist.’

H.E.R. (born Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson) then added her own two cents via Instastory, writing: ‘I’ve seen many bands and artists with a “small” amount of followers sell out [Madison Square Garden] and headline some huge festivals.’

The R&B triple threat – who boasts 9.1M social media followers – continued: ‘Y’all think everybody’s underrated or an “industry plant” with massive success outside of Instagram. Y’all got the game twisted.’
