Halle Berry has an Oscar on her mantle and a buzzy new horror movie Never Let Go to promote.
But above all, first and foremost she’s a mother.
And right now her daughter, Nahla, 16, needs her as Halle revealed on Friday that the teenager ‘just got her heart broken.’
‘We’ve all been there,’ Berry said via Today. ‘We know that in six months time, she’s going to forget about it, yeah?
‘But in this moment, it’s the single most important thing to be rejected and have a breakup, and she feels like she’s dying, and so a little part of me is dying, too.’
And the mom of two knows all she can do right now is be there for Nahla.
Halle Berry, seen earlier this week, told Today that her daughter Nahla has suffered a heartbreak at age 16
‘I have to just say, “Yeah, this sucks, right? And this sucks balls. I know. And you’re hurt.”
‘I just have to sit in it with her, right? And that’s really hard to do.’
The Catwoman star, 58, also said that her daughter’s relationship was going well until Nahla met her boyfriend’s father.
‘I saw it right away, the way he sized her up. And I think it’s because she has a nose ring. I can’t tell you why, but I could tell the dad was just kind of fixed on that. And I could see it,’ she said.
‘I think his father was like, “Not that one.” I think she wasn’t the version of what he has in mind for his son,’ she explained.
But nonetheless, as mom it was her job to pick up the pieces of her daughter’s broken heart.
‘I am pretty Mama Bear. But I don’t think I’m too Mama Bear,’ she said. ‘My job is to just hold space for them and nurture them, feed them, take care of them, provide them different opportunities, but then they have to decide for themselves.’
The Monster’s Ball actress shares Nahla with ex Gabriel Aubrey and son Maceo, 10, with ex Olivier Martinez, both of whom she’s been engaged in nasty custody battles with.
Halle also shared that she isn’t raising her kids to be ‘clones’ of her, but is shepherding them through their childhood while they develop into the people they are.
‘I really, really, really understand that I’m just the vessel to bring these kids here. I don’t expect to really influence who they become,’ she said.

And while Halle is happy to step up and help them fight their battles now, she also can’t wait to see who her kids become when they grow up.
‘I also can’t wait till they grow up and have their own life, and I can’t wait to see who they’ll become and what they’ll do, even if it’s not what I want them to do. Anything will make me proud as long as they do it,’ she gushed.
Halle also hopes she’s given them the tools to leave the nest and find their own way.
‘I hope I’m infusing them with enough gumption and giving them enough tools to go out into the world and make their own way,’ she said. ‘Whatever that is, I’m going to be proud.’
