Hard Chat’s Tom Gleeson questions whether Grant Denyer deserves a Gold Logie

Grant Denyer, 40, was announced as a Gold Logie nominee just weeks after his show Family Feud was spectacularly axed amid poor ratings.

And comedian Tom Gleeson has publicly questioned the seemingly incongruous turn of events, asking Grant whether the Logies are ‘broken’ during an interview on The Weekly’s Hard Chat this Wednesday.

‘You were nominated for a Gold Logie for Family Feud which has been axed,’ Gleeson said to Denyer. ‘Are the Logies broken?’ The poker-faced funnyman bluntly asked Grant.

Playing along, Grant responded: ‘If I had a known it was this easy to be nominated I would have had all my shows axed a long time ago’.

Without missing a beat, Tom shot back: ‘I struggle with it as a man of science. The Gold Logie is supposed to be for the most popular person on TV. Your show was axed due to low ratings from the third highest-rating network.’

‘That just doesn’t make sense!’ he added.

When quizzed on who he believed would take out the big prize, Grant tipped A Current Affair’s Tracey Grimshaw.

Grant is also competing against fellow Network Ten stars Amanda Keller and Jessica Marais, Foxtel’s Andrew Winter, and Nine Network’s Rodger Corser.

He has been nominated four times in the past, in 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2015.

Grant revealed that he was looking for new work last month when he revealed the axing of Family Feud on his 2DayFM’s Em, Grant & Ed radio show.

‘I’ve got a big announcement guys. Family Feud is wrapping up,’ the affable host told listeners at the time.

Grant claimed he felt ‘sad’ the show was being cancelled, after taking on the role of presenter in 2014 following his departure from Channel Seven’s Sunrise.

‘I think it came along at a time when I was looking for something new and a fun new challenge and it kind of re-birthed me, if you like,’ he said.

‘So then you have quite a sentimentality towards it, so yeah it’s a bit sad.’
