Jodie Comer breaks down as she and co-star Stephen Graham deal with the Covid pandemic in hard-hitting first trailer for new Channel 4 drama Help

Jodie Comer was seen breaking down in tears in a first look trailer for her upcoming channel 4 drama Help, which was released on Radio Times on Friday.

The two-hour film will see Jodie and her co-star Stephen Graham’s lives turned upside down by the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in spring 2020. 

A teaser clip shows The Killing Eve star donning PPE and running through a fictional care home in Liverpool as she tries to keep patient Tony (Stephen) safe.

The story will follow the relationship between care home worker Sarah (Jodie) and Tony (Stephen), a patient with Young Onset Alzheimer’s.

The COVID-19 outbreak leaves Sarah pulling out all the stops to protect Tony and the others in her care – as everything she knows and believes is thrown into turmoil.  

The hard-hitting film, which was announced last November, is set to air soon – and will bring together BAFTA-winning writer Jack Thorne and BAFTA-winning director Marc Munden.

Important role: Stephen, who is known for his roles in Line Of Duty and White House Farm, described the upcoming drama as 'a profoundly importance piece of social realism'

The successful duo have previously collaborated on the commended mini-series National Treasure, which aired on Channel 4 in 2016.

Stephen, who is known for his roles in Line Of Duty and White House Farm, described the upcoming drama as ‘a profoundly importance piece of social realism.’ 

The successful actor, who is also renowned for playing Andrew ‘Combo’ Gascoigne in This Is England, said: ‘Jack is one of the greatest and most truthful writers of our generation.

‘I’ve wanted to work with Jodie for ages, and together we’re hugely passionate about shining a light on one of the biggest tragedies of our time and the people at the heart of it.’

The Killing Eve actress added: ‘I am, of course, thrilled to finally be working alongside Stephen and the supremely talented Jack, Marc and those at Channel 4. For us to be able to explore such a relevant and emotive story through the eyes of such beautifully real characters, and in our home city of Liverpool, is a real honour. 

‘We’re determined to do justice to so many of the untold stories and heroes that have been affected as a result of this crisis and to handle them with care.’

The trailer will make its television debut tonight during the premiere of Channel 4’s new drama Deceit. 

Help is set to air on Channel 4 in the near future.
