Harry Potter fans can now stay in Godric’s Hollow for £120 a night

If you fancy waking up one morning in the birthplace of Harry Potter, there’s an Airbnb that’s right up your street.

De Vere House in the pretty village of Lavenham, Suffolk – which was the setting for Godric’s Hollow in the film adaptations of JK Rowling’s much-loved novels – is now listed for rental on the site.

The former five star, Gold Award-winning bed and breakfast was used as the location for the house where Harry’s parents Lily and James Potter intended to bring him up – before they were slain by Lord Voldemort.

As well as being the village where Harry was born, Godric’s Hollow is also where Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore grew up. 

Its fame saw it become the second most photographed doorway in the whole of the UK, with only number 10 Downing Street pipping it to the top spot. 

The grade I listed, luxury 14th century cottage listed for sale in August 2012 for £950,000, however it never sold and remains listed on various estate agents’ websites.  

De Vere House is located in the centre of Lavenham and guests can stay in one of two four poster bedrooms, both with en suite bathrooms, TVs and wifi internet access.

In the morning guests will be treated to a full English breakfast, served in the dining room of the main wing of the house (pictured)

There’s also a private guest sitting room with a roaring log fire and courtyard garden. Guests are required to stay for a minimum of two nights.

Its Harry Potter connection has meant it’s proved incredibly popular, with very few dates available to book until February 2020.

De Vere House, which has also been known as the De Vere Hunting Lodge, Oxford House and Oxford Cottages over the years, was owned by the powerful De Vere family from the 14th to 17th centuries.

It also includes the remains of one of the last garde-robes to be installed in this country, a rare and original medieval wall painting, and a magnificent front door-way.

The historic village boasts more than 300 protected heritage properties, which includes a 15th-century church and half-timbered medieval cottages.
