Harry Styles creates social media stir posting and deleting a pic donning a One Direction shirt

Harry Styles briefly posts a pic donning a One Direction shirt leading to phrases ‘HE DELETED IT’ and ‘THE SHIRT’ trending on social media

Harry Styles appeared to have a sentimental Sunday.

The English pop star, 29, took to social media with a shot of himself clad in a black One Direction shirt that appeared to be from the band’s 2012 Up All Night tour.

The shirt featured images of his bandmates Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik in a pattern of squares, with the band’s abbreviated name 1D in one of the squares.

The Watermelon Sugar vocalist rounded out his workout ensemble in navy blue shorts with orange sneakers in the home gym flanked by large gray exercise balls and kettlebells.

Styles’ nod to his past – which he posted and later deleted – prompted an outpour of reaction on social media, with the phrases ‘HE DELETED IT’ and ‘THE SHIRT’ trending.

‘Whenever witnessed the story before he deleted it … welcome to close friends harry styles edition LMFAOOO,’ one user wrote of the images.

Another user reacted, ‘Not about the band but MISTER STYLES JUST SHARED THIS PICTURE OF HIM FANGIRLING DURING HIS WORKOUT SESSION VIA HIS STORY !!! He deleted it.’

The As It Was artist alluded to his former band – which was formed with four of his fellow contestants on The X Factor UK – last month as he accepted the honors for British artist of the year at the 2023 BRIT Awards in London last month.

‘I want to thank my mum for signing me up for X Factor without telling me, so I literally wouldn’t be here without you,’ Styles said.

He added, ‘I want to thank Niall, Louis, Liam and Zayn because I wouldn’t be here without you either – thank you so much.’

The five performers united to form the group in 2010 and released five studio albums – Up All Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories, Four and Made in the A.M. – prior to their split in 2016.

In the speech at the BRIT Awards, Styles said he was ‘really, really grateful’ and ‘very aware of [his] privilege up here tonight,’ following a backlash after the Grammys earlier in the month.

In the Grammys speech, following his win for Album of the Year for Harry’s House, the singer said, ‘this doesn’t happen to people like me very often’ a statement which was panned as ‘tone deaf’ on social media.
