A man has allegedly been caught with $2,000 worth of stolen meat and seafood in his car.

Victoria police caught the alleged meat thief from Cheltenham on Sunday in Cairnlea, Melbourne.

The haul included salmon, prawns, lamb chops, lamb racks and roast beef from Coles, Nine News reports.

Officers interviewed the man in relation to the suspected stolen produce.

Police said the meat was later returned to Coles. 

The man is expected to be charged on summons, meaning he will be required to appear in court.
