‘He got arrested!’: Waleed Aly clashes with the UFC’s Dana White over that Conor McGregor incident

In April, champion mixed martial artist Conor McGregor, 30, attacked a bus full of fellow cage fighters with a dolly, allegedly injuring several people.

And on Tuesday, The Project’s Waleed Aly asked UFC boss Dana White, 49, if the incident was just a publicity stunt, given that cameras were already rolling for the violent episode.

‘Do you understand,’ began Dana, ‘he [Conor] got arrested?! He went to jail! He had to go before the New York attorney general …’

Dana’s voice was raised as he said: ‘They already took care of it. What I am going to do?’

As Aly, 40, began his next question, Dana interjected: ‘He was suspended! He was suspended! He couldn’t fight because he was in jail!’

Ali said he just wanted Dana to ‘level with us’ about the incident, adding that while the state has suspended McGregor, Dana had invited him to fight again.

Earlier in the interview, Dana explained that there already cameras there to capture the bus attack as they happened to be in the middle of filming the show UFC Embedded, ‘where we follow the fighters around’.

The UFC president also announced that there will be a mixed martial arts fight in Melbourne on February 10, 2019.

‘The headliner is going to be Australia’s first-ever UFC champion Robert Whittaker, taking on Kelvin Gastelum,’ said Dana.

‘You’re going to see an incredible fight. Both guys are knockout artists, both guys like to stand up and bang,’ he added.

Whittaker, 27, is the current middleweight champion of the UFC.
