Health by Bec Miller: ‘Foodie’ florist, 44, reveals how she dropped 8kg in 12 weeks for her wedding

A busy mum-of-two and wedding florist who had tried everything to lose weight has revealed how she dropped eight kilos in 12 weeks to feel ‘incredible’ on her wedding day.

Steph Wall, 44, from Perth, said while she was never particularly unhealthy before she lost the weight, her portion sizes were ‘far too big’ with energy-dense foods like rice, lentils, bread and pasta.

‘I had no idea about how much I should be eating and even though meat and veg or salad made up the majority of my meals, bread and pasta were also regulars and I weighed 80kg,’ Steph told FEMAIL.

‘I also had no energy and regularly felt like I’d been hit by a truck.’

Steph stumbled upon the Aussie weight loss nutritionist Bec Miller’s Three Week Body Reset program after being recommended it by another nutritionist friend and thought she would try it.

‘To be completely honest I was sceptical when I started as I felt I had tried all of the things and got nowhere in the past with weight loss,’ Steph told FEMAIL.

‘I’m a real foodie so I was a bit worried I’d be bored and starving all the time, but I thought it was worth a go.’

The Three Week Body Reset is designed to help women slim down without being hungry.

It also aims to banish bloating, boost women’s energy and help them find peace with their approach to eating.

The reset promises no small meals, ingredients from ‘regular shops’, a focus on gut health and some education to set you up for long-term success.

‘I’d followed Bec on Instagram for about a year and seeing lots of amazing testimonials before trying the three-week body reset,’ Steph said.

With the wedding in 12 weeks as motivation, she signed up.

After a week on the program, Steph said she already felt amazing.

And when she stepped on the scales to find she had already lost 3kg, she was ‘hooked’.

‘Within that week, my energy levels had turned around and I’d gone from not having the energy to walk my dog to doing an hour at the gym after a busy day of work and taking my dog for a walk,’ she said.

‘I didn’t feel like I’d been hit by a truck in terms of my energy levels, and best of all, I didn’t feel hungry or like I could chew my own arm off. I was shocked.’

Steph explained that the recipes were ‘delicious’ and ‘easy to make’.

Most days for breakfast she would make herself a smoothie, while lunch would either be leftovers or a protein-based salad.

‘Dinner, I’d give myself a generous-sized meal of protein and low carb pasta and veg from the plan,’ she said.

‘I loved that sweet treats and snacks were also included as I didn’t ever feel like I was depriving myself.’

‘When my energy increased so much in those first few weeks, I started also including a gym session five days a week,’ Steph said.

‘My job is also very physical, lots of heavy lifting and up and down ladders. My stamina improved dramatically.’

After 12 weeks, Steph said she had dropped 8kg to weigh 72kg on her wedding day.

‘To be honest, the biggest improvement has been in my energy,’ she said.

‘I think reminding ourselves that any journey isn’t linear and even making a one per cent change every day soon adds up. It’s all been so worth it.’

Speaking on Bec’s nutrition podcast, Steph shared her tips for others wanting to lose weight.

She said the most important thing to pay attention to is your portion size.

Steph’s tips for lasting weight loss

1. Pay attention to your portion size: You can easily make little tweaks that don’t affect the taste of what you’re eating but do affect the calorie composition.

2. Include as many high protein and good fat foods as possible: Pay attention to how different foods make you feel, whether that’s satisfied and full or crabby and bloated.

3. Plan the week: Write your shopping list and have your plan in place so you don’t deviate.

‘My diet was reasonably healthy before but my portion sizes were huge,’ she said.

‘You can easily make little tweaks that don’t affect the taste of what you’re eating, but do affect the calorie composition.’

Steph’s second tip is that you need to include as many high protein and good fat foods as possible, and reduce your carb intake somewhat.

‘Pay attention to how different foods make you feel after you eat them, whether it’s full and satisfied or crabby and bloated,’ she said.

Then, work to include more of the good foods and cut out the bad.

Next, the 44-year-old said you need to have the week planned out, the shopping list written and your plan in place so you don’t deviate.

‘It’s good to look ahead in your diary to see when you might have to stay back at work too so you’re prepared with quick, easy and healthy options and aren’t tempted to order UberEats,’ she said.

Finally, she said you’ve just got to take it one step at a time and take measurements along the way.

‘Measure yourself along the way and record where you’re at,’ Steph said.

‘You should never feel bad about investing in your health. If I’d have had this energy in my 30s when my kids were young, who knows what life would have been like.’
