Hearn insists Canelo Alverez and Gennady Golovkin trilogy is the ‘biggest money fight’ for Mexican

Eddie Hearn insists Canelo Alverez and Gennady Golovkin trilogy fight would be ‘biggest money fight’ around for the Mexican as the promoter takes aim at bringing great rivalry to DAZN

  • Canelo Alvarez battled to a knockout victory over Caleb Plant this month
  • Eddie Hearn wants to bring the Mexican back onto DAZN for his next fight
  • Alvarez is being linked to a third fight against great rival Gennady Golovkin
  • Hearn believes facing ‘GGG’ makes the most sense for the iconic fighter

Eddie Hearn wants Canelo Alvarez back on DAZN in 2022, and he’d like Gennady Golovkin to be the man challenging the super middleweight king.

The Mexican pound-for-pound great floored Caleb Plant in round 11 of the fierce rivals’ Las Vegas showdown, and he’s hungry for more.

Alvarez’s priority is cementing his legacy. That’s, he says: ‘Why I’m here’. A trilogy fight with Golovkin could stamp his name over more pages of the history books.

‘GGG’ challenged the Mexican for two controversial fights in 2017 and 2018, drawing the first before Alvarez edged the rematch by unanimous decision – when Golovkin stormed out of the ring, furious at what some called a ‘robbery.’

Hearn’s would jump at the chance to organise the settlement of this unfinished business on Matchroom, after siding with Premier Boxing Champions for his latest Vegas show.

‘We’re going to go to him and say, “here are our three or four options.” PBC is going to say, “here are our three or four options,” and somebody else is probably going to put three or four options out there,’ Hearn told IFL TV.

‘He’s going to look at the deal and decide which one he wants to do. I think the GGG fight is going to be such a big fight, and there’s going to be an announcement about him very soon. He’s got a big unification fight coming up.

‘The GGG versus Canelo fight is a massive fight and probably the biggest money fight out there for Canelo.

‘But he’s got enough money. It’s not just about who pays the most money, and it’s got to be a fight that motivates him.’

With Golovkin sliding towards retirement at 39, time is running out to setup the decider with Canelo.

The Kazakh is focusing on his middleweight unification bout with Ryota Murata in Japan first, which has been confirmed for December 29.
