A disabled dog was abandoned twice in one day by heartless owners who left it alone on the streets of Brazil.

CCTV captured the moment a woman dumped the dog on the sidewalk in Sao Leopoldo, in the south of the country, before driving away in her car.

Footage shows the animal – named Tintin – trying to climb back into the vehicle before she pushed it to the floor and sped off.

This is the moment the owner of a disabled dog named Tintin pushed him to the floor before getting into her car and driving away, leaving him alone on the streets of Brazil

The street was located outside her husband’s office, who found the unfortunate animal wandering around outside some time later.

But instead of driving him home, the man took Tintin to an animal shelter where he was abandoned a second time.

Anderson Ribeiro, boss of the Secretariat of Animal Protection in Sao Leopoldo, said the man walked in with the animal on a leash and said he found him of the streets.

Ribeiro told Brazilian channel G1 that, because the animal was wearing a collar, he assumed it was a lost dog rather than a stray.

He got in touch with local Ana Paula Scherer, who owns a dog with a similar disability named Berlin, to check whether it belonged to her.

The street is located outside the office where the woman's husband works, and he came out and found his pet a short time later - but took him to a shelter and abandoned him again

But when she told him that Berlin was at home with her, Ribeiro became suspicious of the man’s story and decided to alert police.

Officers managed to trace the owners – who admitted to being the same pair who had abandoned Tintin earlier in the day.

Ribeiro says he has passed his information over to police, who confirmed they are investigating on a charge of animal abuse and have called witnesses to testify.

The penalty for animal abuse ranges from three months to a year in jail and a fine.

Tintin has now been placed at an animal shelter and 20 people have inquired about adopting him.

However, authorities say they will take their time in picking a new home based upon who is best able to care for his specialist needs.
