The heartbroken family of a popular teenager say their son’s death was a ‘moment of madness’ and a ‘permanent solution to a temporary problem’.

Angus Prior, 18, from Warriewood in Sydney’s northern beaches, committed suicide on August 11.

The apprentice landscaper had been struggling to deal with the death of his best friend Oscar ‘OJ’ Valentin, who died in a car crash in April.

Pastor and family friend Paul Bucknell said Mr Prior’s father, Geoff Prior, told him ‘Angus would have regretted that moment’, the Manly Daily reported.

‘It was a permanent solution to a temporary problem,’ Mr Bucknell said.

On Wednesday, hundreds of mourners attended Mr Prior’s funeral at Pittwater Uniting Church, where friends of the avid skater formed a guard of honour using their boards.

His father and mother, Judi Prior, both 55, were in attendance alongside Mr Prior’s sister Hayley, 23.

Manly Sea Eagles NRL players Jake and Tom Trbojevic were also among the mourners, as Mr Prior was friends with their younger brother.

Geoff Prior said his son loved football and skiing, and was a ‘typical Aussie male who would never ask for your help’.

‘He will be forever young, 18 forever. Rock on Angus. It was the best 18 years of our lives,’ he said.

Judi Prior said her son was a ‘soft, sensitive, caring child’.

‘Angus, I know the past few months have been so very hard for you and it broke my heart to see you hurting so much.

‘I think I can safely say Angus you have been the best son I could ever have hoped for. I will always remember your cheeky smile.’
