This is the heartwarming moment police helped a family of ducks cross a busy road in peak hour traffic.

A traffic camera captured the adorable footage of five ducklings and their mother waddling over Brisbane’s Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge as cars zoomed past on Wednesday morning.

An incident response truck can be seen diverting traffic from the far left-hand lane to keep the lost ducks safe.

A police officer on a motorbike pulls up shortly after to close off a second lane to motorists as busy peak hour traffic begins to pick up at around 7.30am.

‘You stay together, buddies,’ the officer says to the ducks.

Video from the police officer’s helmet-cam, obtained by the ABC, then shows a fire engine arriving on the scene for backup.

Fire crews and a police man eventually managed to capture the six ducklings and their mother after huddling them together using blankets

Three fire fighters and the police officer then use blankets to bundle the lost ducks into a corner on the side of the road.

This proves difficult when three of the ducks scurry away, forcing the police officer to chase after them down the motorway.

Two of the ducks are then captured using blankets, but another cheeky duckling manages to get away for the second time.

The policeman then sprints down the road trying to catch the wayward duckling, and finally manages to grab hold of it.

Eventually, all six ducklings and their mother were safely captured and taken to the RSPCA to be assessed.
