Heartwarming moment boy, 13, breaks down in tears as he’s gifted a disabled puppy

Puppy love! Boy, 13, with a life-limiting condition breaks down in tears as he meets abandoned disabled cockapoo

This is the heartwarming moment a boy with a life-limiting condition broke down in tears after being gifted a disabled puppy that had been abandoned by her breeder.

Footage shared by his mother shows Oscar, 13, from Redcar and Cleveland in North Yorkshire, overcome with emotion when presented with the 13-week-old cockapoo on November 10.

In 2017, Oscar underwent heart surgery and now ‘lives with a life-limiting disability’, explained his mother.

She revealed how – despite the family already having ‘two gorgeous Labradors’ – her son has always wanted a smaller dog he could pick up and cuddle when he was feeling anxious.

The clip begins with the boy’s parents entering their home and his mother shouting: ‘Oscar, I’ve got a present for you,’ while holding the puppy.

‘What is it? What is it? Who?,’ he eagerly asks when seeing the adorable caramel-coloured pooch.

‘Meet Red,’ says his mother, to which an excited Oscar replies: ‘Omg. Have we got a new dog?’ ‘You have’, his father answers.

Oscar is quick to welcome the dog and sit down with her on his lap before becoming emotional.

He offers his mother a hug, who asks: ‘What do you think?’. A tearful Oscar simply replies: ‘Perfect.’

Oscar’s mother explains to the family: ‘She’s got a disability as well. Her front leg, her left leg is shorter than all her other legs… The breeder didn’t want her because of her poorly legs.’

Commenting on the video, Oscar’s mother said: ‘My 13-year-old son lives with a life-limiting disability and despite us having two gorgeous Labradors, our son has always said he’d love a small dog he could pick up and hold and cuddle as his own when he was feeling anxious or down about his condition.

‘We heard about a 13-week-old puppy that had been abandoned by a breeder due to her having a deformed leg and being “disabled” as they said no one would want her and they wouldn’t make any money from her, so they left her at a local animal sanctuary.

‘The day we met her, we knew she was perfect for our family. The day we went to pick her up my son knew nothing.

‘He thought his Dad and I were popping out to the shops and instead we went to pick up his new best friend ‘Yaya’. As you can see, his reaction was priceless!’
